چکیده

An interest in the theoretical study of quantum spin chains exhibiting spin–Peierls phases has incredibly grown since the discovery of the first inorganic spin–Peierls compound CuGeO3 (for a review see). Although the quantum Heisenberg model is usually used as an appropriate model to describe the spin–Peierls phase transition in the available materials some generic features can be clarified within the framework of the simpler spin2 isotropic XY chain (see and references therein). The latter spin model can be reformulated using the Jordan–Wigner transformation as a one–dimensional model of tight–binding spinless fermions. As a result, the exhaustive analytical and numerical analysis of different properties of the model becomes possible. In what follows we analyze a stability of various spin–Peierls phases at zero temperature in the presence of external field. For this purpose we consider a nonuniform spin2 isotropic XY chain in a transverse field defined by the Hamiltonian

Quantum Spin Chains with Regularly Alternating Bonds and Fields

We consider the spin1 2 XY chain in a transverse field with regularly varying exchange interactions and on-site fields. In two limiting cases of the isotropic (XX) and extremely anisotropic (Ising) exchange interaction the thermodynamic quantities are calculated rigorously with the help of continued fractions. We discuss peculiarities of the low-temperature magnetic properties and a possibility...

Lattice dynamical effects on the Peierls transition in one-dimensional metals and spin chains

The interplay of charge, spin and lattice degrees of freedom is studied for quasi-one-dimensional electron and spin systems coupled to quantum phonons. Special emphasis is put on the influence of the lattice dynamics on the Peierls transition. Using exact diagonalization techniques the ground-state and spectral properties of the Holstein model of spinless fermions and of a frustrated Heisenberg...

Zero-field incommensurate spin-Peierls phase with interchain frustration in TiOCl.

We report on the magnetic, thermodynamic, and optical properties of the quasi-one-dimensional quantum antiferromagnets TiOCl and TiOBr, which have been discussed as spin-Peierls compounds. The observed deviations from canonical spin-Peierls behavior, e.g., the existence of two distinct phase transitions, have been attributed previously to strong orbital fluctuations. This can be ruled out by ou...

Long-Time Tails and Anomalous Slowing Down in the Relaxation of Spatially Inhomogeneous Excitations in Quantum Spin Chains

Exact analytic calculations in spin-1/2 XY chains, show the presence of longtime tails in the asymptotic dynamics of spatially inhomogeneous excitations. The decay of inhomogeneities, for t → ∞, is given in the form of a power law (t/τQ) −νQ , where the relaxation time τQ and the exponent νQ depend on the wave vector Q, characterizing the spatial modulation of the initial excitation. We conside...

Ordering in Two-Dimensional Ising Models with Competing Interactions

We study the 2D Ising Model on a square lattice with additional non-equal diagonal next-nearest neighbor interactions. The cases of classical and quantum (transverse) models are considered. Possible phases and their locations in the space of three Ising couplings are analyzed. In particular, incommensurate phases, occurring only at non-equal diagonal couplings, are predicted. In a particular re...
